A healthy set of teeth ensure that you are able to eat properly and get all the basic nutrients your body needs to be able to function properly. Apart from following a routine of oral hygiene personally, a regular visit to the dentist can assure that you do not have any underlying problems in your teeth which can lead to major concerns in the future.

A general procedure that a dentist provides is teeth cleaning and dental exams. If they do detect a problem then they advise you on the dental work that is needed and where you will need to go for it. In certain clinics like Eastport Dental, in Calgary, you can avail yourself of almost all types of dental services in the same place. The dental service that you will require is examined through detailed examination and sometimes even an x-ray is needed to understand what the exact solution must be. After this is done, the dentist will then explain to you what the problem is and what solution they have to offer.

Below are the most common types of services you will need your dentist for.

There are plenty of reasons you could be suffering from a toothache or mild pains while chewing. Bear in mind that mostly all dentists give the patient a dose of anesthesia to numb the infected area so they don’t feel pain during the procedure. The most common solutions that your dentist could offer you after examining it are as follows:

1. Fillings For Tooth

This is one of the most common dental procedures practiced when a patient is suffering from a sensitive or sore tooth.  The dentist will need to drill a hole in the infected tooth and remove all the pulp from it. After thoroughly cleaning they then fill the hole with the standard material. It is then sealed off and prevents the cavity from growing further.

2. Root Canals

When the decay is not stopped at the surface of the tooth, it further infects and decays all the way to the roots. At this stage, a root canal is advised. In this procedure, a hole is drilled in the middle of the tooth all the way to the roots and the pulp is removed through it. Once it has been all cleaned up, the dentist will use a standard material to fill it back in permanently. As compared to a regular filling which is shallow, a root canal requires a deeper hole to be made so that the roots can be accessed.

3. Adding a Crown

This is normally done after a root canal treatment. Though not all patients are advised to get the crowning done, in some cases it would be necessary especially if the tooth is severely decayed or broken. A crown adds an extra layer of protection to the freshly operated tooth.

4. Extraction

This is not so common but if the tooth is beyond the option of repair or revival then the only option left is to remove it completely. An extracted tooth can be replaced with a tooth of different material depending on the budget of the patient.

Though these are the four basic services, a thorough dental exam will help the dentist in understanding and advising which treatment will help manage your problem.
